  3. to proceed [with إِلَى (ʔilā) ‘towards somewhere’]
  4. to strive, to aspire, to attempt [with إِلَى (ʔilā) or لِ (li, + verbal noun) ‘to do something’]
    الطالب يسعى جاهدًا لتحقيق النجاح في دراسته.
    The student strives hard to achieve success in his studies.
    عارضوا دعوته وسعوا إلى قتله.
    They opposed his call and sought to kill him.
  5. to chase, to pursue [with وَرَاءَ (warāʔa) ‘someone/something’]
  6. to take steps, to make efforts [with فِي () ‘in a matter’]
