Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Since Lidén usually considered inherited from Proto-Indo-European *tm̥peh₂, from the root *temp- (to extend, stretch, span), and cognate with Lithuanian ti̇̀mpa (sinew), Old Norse þǫmb (paunch; bowstring), but Ačaṙean rejects this and leaves the origin open.

For the sense development compare բարձ (barj).
