Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yok-karï (above, upwards), a development of *yok (high, tall, elevated). Cognate with Azerbaijani yuxarı, Bashkir юғары (yuğarı), Crimean Tatar yuqarı, Kazakh жоғары (joğary), Kyrgyz жогору (jogoru), Uzbek yuqori and Yakut соҕуруу (soğuruu).
