Etymology 1[edit]

Compound of (o-, honorific prefix) +‎ 休み (yasumi, rest, a break, a holiday), the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, stem form) of verb 休む (yasumu, to rest), itself from adjective 安い (yasui, easygoing; easy) + verbalizing suffix (mu).[3]
