Etymology[edit]

Compound of 折り (ori, folding, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of verb 折る (oru, to fold)) +‎ (tsuru, crane (bird)).[1] The tsuru changes to zuru as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
