Duplication[edit]
@AryamanA: sorry to bother you again. Isn't there a way to invoke the Swadesh lists from the individual pages? I don't think it's wise to have to maintain two independent pages. (This is by no means the only page that does this of course: cf. Appendix:Romance Swadesh lists, Appendix:Germanic Swadesh lists, etc.). - @Barytonesis: I could probably do it with Lua. It would be a fair amount of work: the words would have to be housed in data modules, and a function to create the table would have to be written. Maybe the module could parse the wikitext of the individual languages' Swadesh lists, but that would be more complicated, require more processing time, and be prone to bugs, since the lists may not all be formatted in the same way. I might be willing to do it if, once the format is worked out, someone would plug words into data modules. — Eru·tuon 21:30, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
- The formats are very different and I see some disagreement could brew over some choices. I'm adding in the words explicitly as I can and then they can be kept separate. The lists are very finite and once they have been checked that should be sufficient, even if there can be different choices. What would be nice is some sort of function that could build a table from any selection of these stored Swadesh lists. Might be willing to work that some point in the future. - @Harsimaja: What I mean by format is how to organize the Lua data tables from which the displayed tables would be generated. Which languages to include?[edit]
Should we include Urdu and Hindi separately, especially if only the Romanisation is being shown? The Indo-Iranian list includes them in one column with differences in brackets. On the flip side, if we're including Sindhi and Assamese should we not include Oriya/Odia? And possibly Konkani and maybe Dhivehi for an international spread? Though I'd say any more than that would be excessive - it's very wide already. Harsimaja (talk) 20:16, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Kashmiri Arabic vs. Devanagari[edit]
Don't wish to step into a minefield here, and happy to switch it back once it's complete, but with Grierson's dictionary readily available I've almost completed the Devanagari version of the Kashmiri Swadesh list, while the Arabic script (with correct orthography) is harder to find. Would it be possible to switch 'ks' to the Devanagari version so the whole grid is nearer complete? - No. Grierson's dictionary uses an archaic modified version of the Devanagari script, your added words contain some wrong Unicode characters e.g. you have used the Vedic accent indicator ॑ instead of ऺ. It's better to use just the official script (Perso-Arabic) here as it would otherwise clutter the table.
