hoi
[edit]Etymology 1
[edit]Presumably from Malay hoi (“hey”) simply because of the fact that 蕳砃/𫈉砃 is also from Malay Malay kentang (“potato”) idk maybe being from hong kong would make more sense if it's not documented anywhere which gives me the impression that it's recent or I'm just not digging deep enough.

- (Teochew) hoi (not really sure, i mean it's definitely just a reduction, but i feel like there's never a /ʔ/ preceding it so there's like an underlying or really weak /h/ before, whereas the next definition definitely has a /ʔ/ before so maybe diff etymology)
- (Teochew) response to someone calling for you (or however you wanna phrase it); yes
