Etymology

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *d-rin (compassion; love). Cognate with Tibetan དྲིན (drin, kindness; favour; grace) and Burmese ရည်ငံ (ranyngam, to fall in love) and Burmese ရည်းစား (rany:ca:, lover).
