(See, for example that the first definition is translated as གྲངས་གནས (Wylie: grangs gnas) in Tibetan, whereas the second (an Indic loan) would be translated as ཨང་ཀི (Wylie: ang ki). I contributed two translations to this new table as a start—it would be good if others could flesh it out. undo
  • curprev 00:2800:28, 28 October 2023Hermes Thrice Great talk contribs 9,683 bytes −52 The first two definitions overlapped confusingly and were incorrect, in part. The 1st definition was much too narrow, because this meaning of the word “digit” includes more than just base-10 and the Arabic numerals—e.g., in binary, one speaks of a 2s-digit, 4s-digit, 8s-digit, etc. The 2nd definition was incorrect, because positional number systems do not require 0, and many do not use it—e.g. Babylonian, alphabetic bijective base-26 (Excel), and the symbols used are ultimately arbitrary. undo
