Welcome Message[edit]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Apisite (talk) 22:07, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Languages For Your Babel Box[edit]

What languages do you know? Or would you rather keep them a secret? --Apisite (talk) 21:15, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

French and English Lafemmefrancaise (talk) 21:18, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And on what levels? --Apisite (talk) 21:20, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am fluent in English and I am somewhere in between the intermediate levels and advanced. Lafemmefrancaise (talk) 21:23, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then your BabelBox in your user-page could be as follows: {{Babel|en|fr-3 or 4}} --Apisite (talk) 21:46, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I made your BabelBox fr-3, because it may be better here to undershoot than to overshoot. --Apisite (talk) 22:06, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, Thanks! Lafemmefrancaise (talk) 22:09, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Customizing your User-page[edit]

How would you like to customize your user-page? --Apisite (talk) 03:38, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adding cats[edit]

Merci for your work adding Category:en:Woodwind instruments. Note that if an entry is in this category, it should also be removed from Category:en:Musical instruments, as the latter is a parent of the former. Merry Christmas! —Justin (koavf)TCM 21:03, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Merry Christmas to you as well! Lafemmefrancaise (talk) 21:04, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Etymologies[edit]

Hi, please only add etymologies you are confident about. It looks like you're adding them based solely on word endings, which is discouraged because it leads to errors. For example, there is no base word *éroto or *dipso. Some of these words come from prefixes and suffixes, but others are borrowed from the Ancient Greek. Ultimateria (talk) 02:24, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also, please don't categorize a word as being suffixed when it is fully derived from another language (like you did at déicide); those categories are for etymologies and not word endings. Ultimateria (talk) 02:33, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Homophones[edit]

Hello and thank you for your French creations.

But if I may, I would like to talk about your homophones. Actually, an homophone is defined here by A word which is pronounced the same as another word but differs in spelling, meaning or origin.

However, for example in émacier, you've defined some of the verb inflections as homophones, in spite of the fact that a lemma and its inflections are the same word.

As you can see on fr:Aide:Homophones et paronymes, on the French Wiktionary we had already voted to forbid inflections as their lemma homophones. But here I could not find any policy about that (just a quick discussion in the BP).

So, what do you think? JackPotte (talk) 21:18, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, ok. Sorry about that, I didn't know. I will go back and get rid of them. Lafemmefrancaise (talk) 17:04, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please don't use {{etyl}}, it has been deprecated in favour of more specific etymology templates such as {{der}}, {{inh}}, {{bor}}, {{lbor}}, etc. Please read the instructions given on the pages to know when to use which template. Thanks! ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 01:17, 16 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
