Turkish

Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish چلدرمق (çıldırmak, to go mad, to lose one's wits), earlier attested as a derivative [script needed] (çıldurdu, crackling noise). Akin to Karakhanid [script needed] (çaldrāmāk, to clank, jingle). Compare also Turkish çatlamak (to make a cracking sound, to crack, to go mad) for a similar semantic evolution.

  1. (intransitive) to go mad, go crazy, go insane, lose one's mind
