From Old Turkic ürk- (to be afraid, run away in fear), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Turkic *ürk- (to be afraid)[1]. Cognate with Kyrgyz үркүү (ürküü, to be frightened of), (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Uzbek hurkmoq.
