Etymology

From Ancient Greek ἀπαραίτητος (aparaítētos, inexorable; not to be moved by prayer), with semantic loan from French inévitable, indispensable.[1] The Ancient Greek term is from ἀ- (a-, a-, un-) + an adjectival formation from παραιτέω (paraitéō, to beg for oneself), for which see πᾰραιτέομαι (paraitéomai, to beg, entreat) for more.[2]
