Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *kwep- (to smoke, boil, move violently); see also Lithuanian kūpėti (to boil over), Old Church Slavonic кꙑпѣти (kypěti, to boil), Sanskrit कुप्यति (kupyati, become agitated, bubbles up), Latin cupiō.[1]
