Usage notes[edit]

Although the initial meaning borrowed from Ottoman Turkish "hill, summit" is not used in common speech anymore, the term survives and is understood as part of multiple toponyms, especially in Northern Greece (e.g. Αλάν Τεπέ, Καρά Τεπέ, Μποζ Τεπέ, Ταουσάν Τεπέ).
