Inherited from Old East Slavic *бърщь (*bŭrščĭ), from Proto-Slavic *bъrščь, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *burstjas, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰr̥s-t-yos, from *bʰers-.[1][2][3][4][5] Doublet of барщъ (baršč).
