From Proto-Iranian *dwā́r, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰwā́r, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰwṓr. Cognate with Sanskrit द्वार् (dvā́r), Persian در(dar), Hindustani द्वार (dvār) / دوار(dvār), English door, German Tür, Armenian դուռ (duṙ), Irish doras and Russian дверь (dverʹ).
