[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic зълчь (zŭlčĭ) (rarer жълчь (žŭlčĭ)), from Proto-Slavic *zьlčь (“bile”), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *źulʔ-, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰlh₃-. Related to *zelenъ and was under the influence of *žьltъ.
