Etymology[edit]

From Old East Slavic чухно ‎(čuxno), from чудь ‎(čudĭ) with an expressive suffix -хно ‎(-xno). For the suffix compare given names Михно́ ‎(Mixnó), Яхно́ ‎(Jaxnó), Махно́ ‎(Maxnó), Юхно́ ‎(Juxnó).
