From Old Church Slavonic ѩчьнѣнъ (jęčĭněnŭ), from Proto-Slavic *(j)ęčьmy. Cognates include Ancient Greek ἀκοστή (akostḗ, “barley”), Latin acus (“needle”) and Old English ahar (“corn-ear”)
