A Georgian-Zan borrowing, ultimately from Proto-Kartvelian *c̣ux-, whence Georgian წუხვა (c̣uxva, sadness, sorrow), Old Georgian წუხილი (c̣uxili, anxiety, grief, sadness), მწუხრი (mc̣uxri, dusk); for the sense development compare Persian دود (dud, smoke; sadness, anguish).[1]
