Probably from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰh₁-ol- and cognate with Lithuanian žúolis, Sanskrit हल ‎(hala, plough), perhaps also Old Armenian ձեղուն ‎(jełun), ձլեմ ‎(jlem).
