Etymology[edit]

The root is ցիտ- (cʻit-), from Proto-Indo-European *skid-, zero-grade of *skeyd-.

  1. (transitive) to graze, to rub the skin off, to scratch, to bruise, to notch, to jag
    ցտել զհերսcʻtel zhersto tear out one's hair

  4. (transitive, medicine) to scarify, to cup
  5. (mediopassive, intransitive) to bruise oneself, to rub the skin off, to scratch oneself
