Etymology[edit]

The root is ցիտ- (cʿit-), from Proto-Indo-European *skid-, from *skeyd-.

ցտեմ (cʿtem)  (aorist indicative ցտեցի)

  1. (transitive) to graze, to rub the skin off, to scratch, to bruise, to notch, to jag
    ցտել զհերսcʿtel zhersto tear out one's hair
  2. (transitive) to make incisions, to cut
  3. (transitive) to wrest, to extort, to carry off
  4. (transitive, medicine) to scarify, to cup
  5. (in the mediopassive, intransitive) to bruise oneself, to rub the skin off, to scratch oneself
