Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Analyzable as a combination of بن (bon, end) and بست (bast), the participle stem of بستن (bastan, to close, shut, tie). Related بن‌گرد (bon-gard, cul-de-sac) uses a similar construction with the verb گشتن (gaštan, to turn, twist).
