Ottoman Turkish[edit]

Bilecik province

Etymology[edit]

An evolution of the original Byzantine Greek name Βηλοκώμη (Bēlokṓmē), probably a compound of Bulgarian бял (bjal, white) + -о- + Ancient Greek κώμη (kṓmē, village). It should be assumed that this was one of the Serbian settlements in this region, since the original Greek name would have produced a form like Vilegüme or Veligöme in Turkish.

Proper noun[edit]

بیله‌جك (bilecik)

  1. Bilecik (a city and province in East Marmara region, Turkey)

Descendants[edit]

  • Turkish: Bilecik
  • Armenian: Պիլէճիք (Pilēčikʻ)
