Borrowed from Aramaic תַּרְעָא (tarʿā, opening, gate). Doublet of ثُغْرَة (ṯuḡra).

تُرْعَة (turʕaf (plural تُرَع (turaʕ) or تُرْعَات (turʕāt))

    • 7th century CE, Sunan Ibn Mājah, section 25:
      إِنَّ أُحُدًا جَبَلٌ يُحِبُّنَا وَنُحِبُّهُ وَهُوَ عَلَى تُرْعَةٍ مِنْ تُرَعِ الْجَنَّةِ وَعَيْرٌ عَلَى تُرْعَةٍ مِنْ تُرَعِ النَّارِ.
      ʔinna ʔuḥudan jabalun yuḥibbunā wanuḥibbuhu wahuwa ʕalā turʕatin min turaʕi al-jannati waʕayrun ʕalā turʕatin min turaʕi an-nāri.
      ʾuḥud is a mountain which loves us and we love it, and it stands at one of the gates of Paradise. And ʿayr stands at one of the gates of Hell.’”
