Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀢𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀔 (tikkha), from Sanskrit तीक्ष्ण (tīkṣṇa, “sharp”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)teyg-.
