From Arabic سَمَّى (sammā). Sense "to say the basmala" is adapted from the word اِسْم (ism, name) used in the basmala, بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيم (bismi llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm).
