Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tara- (“to comb”), the same root of طراق (tarak, “comb”); cognate with Azerbaijani daramaq, Bashkir тарау (taraw), Kazakh тарау (tarau), Kyrgyz тароо (taroo), Tatar таратырга (taratırga), Turkmen daramak and Uzbek taramoq.

Verb

طرامق • (taramak)

1. (transitive) to comb, to groom the hair with a toothed implement
2. (transitive) to hackle, to separate the coarse part of flex or hemp from the fine
3. (transitive) to rake, to collect debris or grass with a toothed implement

   Synonym: طرمیقلامق (tırmıklamak)

4. (transitive) to harrow, to drag a harrow over, or to break up with a harrow
