Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tara- (to comb), the same root of طراق (tarak, comb); cognate with Azerbaijani daramaq, Bashkir тарау (taraw), Kazakh тарау (tarau), Kyrgyz тароо (taroo), Tatar таратырга (taratırga), Turkmen daramak and Uzbek taramoq.

طرامق (taramak)

  1. (transitive) to comb, to groom the hair with a toothed implement
  2. (transitive) to hackle, to separate the coarse part of flex or hemp from the fine
  3. (transitive) to rake, to collect debris or grass with a toothed implement
    Synonym: طرمیقلامق (tırmıklamak)
  4. (transitive) to harrow, to drag a harrow over, or to break up with a harrow
