From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (kpwtl), 𐫐𐫁𐫇𐫤𐫡 (kbwtr /⁠kabōtar⁠/, pigeon), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kapáwtas (pigeon).
