[edit]From Aramaic אִילָנָא (ʾīlānā), from Akkadian 𒀠𒆷𒀭 (ʾallānu, alyānu, “oak; acorn”), from Sumerian 𒄑𒀠𒆷𒈝 (allanum, “oak; acorn, acorn-shaped”); compare Hebrew אֵלוֹן (elón, “great tree, oak”).
