From the root ܫ-ܪ-ܫ (IPA(key): /ʃ-r-ʃ/) related to taking root. Compare Akkadian šuršu [SUḪUŠ][Cuneiform needed], Arabic شِرْش ‎(širš), Hebrew שֹׁרֶשׁ ‎(šṓreš), Ugaritic 𐎌𐎗𐎌 ‎(šrš), and Ge'ez ሥርው ‎(śərw).
