Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hámsas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hámsas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃émsos (“shoulder”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ὦμος (ômos), Latin umerus, Gothic 𐌰𐌼𐍃 (ams).
