Borrowed from Persian کبوتر (kabutar), from Middle Persian [script needed] (kpwtl /⁠kabōtar⁠/, pigeon). Compare Gujarati કબૂતર (kabūtar), Hindi कबूतर (kabūtar), Punjabi ਕਬੂਤਰ (kabūtar), Bengali কবুতর (kobutor).
