Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian قاعده (qā'ida), from Arabic قَاعِدَة (qāʕida). Related to क़वायद (qavāyad). Compare Punjabi ਕਾਇਦਾ (kāidā) / قاعِدہ (qā‘idh), Sindhi قاعِدو / क़ाइदो, Gujarati કાયદો (kāyado), Marathi कायदा (kāydā), Kannada ಕಾಯ್ದೆ (kāyde), Odia କାଇଦା (kāidā).
