Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian نذرانه (nazrāna), suffixed from Arabic نَذْر (naḏr, literally vow; anything consecrated to God; pious gift; present to superior). Compare Gujarati નજરાણું (najrāṇũ), Hindustani نَذْرانہ / नज़राना (nazrānā), Sindhi نَذرانو, Punjabi ਨਜ਼ਰਾਨਾ (nazrānā) / نَذرانہ (naẕrānh), Maithili नजराना (najᵊrānā) / 𑒢𑒖𑒩𑒰𑒢𑒰 (najarānā), Odia ନଜରାନା (najarānā), Bengali নজরানা (nojrana).
