Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀡𑀘𑁆𑀘 (ṇacca), from Sanskrit नृत्य (nṛtya), which was originally नृत्त (nṛttá). Also see नृत्यति (nṛtyati, to dance). Doublet of नृत्य (nŕtya). Cognate with Punjabi ਨਾਚ (nāc) / ناچ(nāc), Gujarati નાચ (nāc), Sindhi ناچُ‎ / नाचु (nācu), Bengali নাচ (nac), Oriya ନାଚ (nacô), Assamese নাচ (nas).
