From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hyádi (if, when), from Proto-Indo-European *Hyós (that, who, which).[1][2] Cognate with Avestan 𐬫𐬈𐬌𐬜𐬌 (yeiδi), 𐬫𐬈𐬜𐬌 (yeδi, if, when), Old Persian 𐎹𐎮𐎹 (y-di-y /⁠yadiy⁠/, if).[3]
