Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘨𑘜𑘹 (saraṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀭𑀇 (saraï), from Sanskrit सरति (sárati). Related to सरकणे (sarakṇe) with the -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-) extension.
