[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *sárȷ́anam, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sárȷ́anam, from Proto-Indo-European *sélǵ-o-no-m, from *selǵ- (“to stand”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬀𐬥𐬀 (harəzana), Old English āseolcan (whence English sulk).
