Bengali[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀮𑀳𑀇 (lahai), from Sanskrit लभते (labhate, to take, seize).

Pronunciation[edit]

    Synonyms: নেওয়া (neōẇa), বহা (boha), বওয়া (boōẇa), গ্রহণ করা (grohon kora)

Usage notes[edit]

  • This is typically not used in modern standard (Chalita) Bengali outside poetry, with নেওয়া (neoẇa) completely taking its place in the spoken language. However, this word is still used in most non-standard dialects, often coexisting with a different nuance to নেওয়া (neōẇa).
