Inherited from Sanskrit वहति (vahati), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *wáźʰati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wáȷ́ʰati, from Proto-Indo-European *wéǵʰeti (to bring, transport). Cognate with Assamese বোৱা (büa), Hindustani Hindi बहना (bahnā) / Urdu بہنا (bahnā).
