Borrowed from Arabic سُنِّيّ (sunniyy, traditionalist), from سُنَّة (sunna, Sunnah) + ـِيّ (-iyy).

Proper noun[edit]

সুন্নি (sunni) (objective সুন্নি (śunni) or সুন্নিকে (śunnike), genitive সুন্নির (śunnir), locative সুন্নিতে (śunnite))

  1. Belonging or relating to the branch of Islam based on the Qur'an, the Kutub al-Sittah (the hadiths which record the Sunnah) and that places emphasis on the Sahabah.
  2. A follower of Sunnism.
    Synonym: আহলে সুন্নৎ (ahle sunnôt)
