From Sanskrit रन्धयति (randhayati), from Proto-Indo-European *lendʰ- (to cook food). Cognate with Sylheti ꠞꠣꠘ꠆ꠗꠣ (randá), Bengali রাঁধা (rãdha), Gujarati રાંધવું (rā̃dhvũ), Konkani रानप (rānap), Odia ରାନ୍ଧିବା (randhiba), Old Armenian աղանձեմ (ałanjem, to roast), Ancient Greek λάσανα (lásana, stand of a pot), Old Prussian landan (food), Irish lann (frying pan), Old Welsh lann (frying pan).
