Etymology

Inherited from Paisaci Prakrit (compare Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑁂𑀤𑀺 (dedi)), from Prakrit 𑀤𑁂𑀇 (dei), from Sanskrit ददाति (dadāti, to give). Cognate with Hindi देना (denā), Bengali দেওয়া (deōẇa), Nepali दिनु (dinu), Marathi देणे (deṇe), Pali dadāti.
