Inherited from Gurjar Apabhramsa सालक (sālak), from Prakrit 𑀲𑀸𑀮𑀑 (sālao), from Sanskrit स्याल (syāla). Cognate with Bengali শালা (śala), Hindi साला (sālā), Romani salo, Sindhi سالو / सालो (sālo).
