Noun

[edit]

ก๊ก (gók)

  1. (rare) polity, as state, city-state, region, country, etc.
  2. (slang) group; category; class.

Usage notes

[edit]
  • The sense polity chiefly appears in old literature as a direct transliteration (rather than a translation) of the Chinese word (kok). For example, สามก๊ก (sǎam-gók, Three States) is a transliteration of 三國三国 (sam-kok), and ง่อก๊ก (ngɔ̂ɔ-gók, Wu State) is a transliteration of 吳國吴国 (ngô͘-kok).
