From Sanskrit लेखा (lekhā, line, streak; stroke, furrow, row, stripe; writing, drawing lines, delineation, painting; etc.) or Pali lekhā (streak, line; scratch; writing, inscription, letter; the art of writing or drawing). Cognate with Lao ເລຂາ (lē khā), Khmer លេខា (leikhaa). Related to เลข (lêek).
