Particularly: “What is "di"??? Which dialect, and which character is this referring to? Why did MED not include the Chinese character...”

Noun

Derived terms

Etymology 4

[edit]

From Proto-Tibeto-Burman *zril (worm). Cognate with Tibetan སྲིལ (sril, silkworm), Old Chinese (OC *linʔ, “earthworm”) (STEDT).

Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (ti "descendant of fourth generation"), and not mentioned by Luce 1981. Considering it's rather "removed relative" semantic category, perhaps the proto-meaning was something else? Any connection to Old Chinese (OC *tiːl, “low”)? MED groups it with the "worm" meaning (which is kind of funny if they are etymologically connected).”

Noun

[edit]

တီ (ti)

  1. great-great-grandchild[1]
