Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *linʔ): semantic 虫 (“insect; worm”) + phonetic 引 (OC *linʔ, *lins).
Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *zril (“worm”); cognate with Tibetan སྲིལ (sril, “silkworm”), Japhug qandʐe (“earthworm”) (STEDT; Paul, 1972; Schuessler, 2007; Zhang, Jacques and Lai, 2019).
